Mint Julep. "Days Gone By" Music Video
An eerie and dark music video, Directed by Noah Harris at Colonel Blimp.
The mood for the two female characters needed to have a timeless feel to it.. making the characters hard to place and more spooky. For the young girl I wanted to project her innocence to enhance her vulnerability to the other two characters. So for this I chose to put her in a vintage child's nightdress/ christening dress. I then tea stained the dress to enhance the antique feel. I really loved the peter pan Broderie Anglaise collar of the dress- the ultimate "Doll."
The Grandmother had a very matronly like character, whilst also feeling dark and repressed. So for this I decided to make her a long, high necked Mormon inspired dress. Using a heavy dark green cotton, with pleat detail at the waist and neck (it had to have some detail!) To add a further dark twist to her character I made a leather collar piece with wire and cabling attached to one side... The collar and technology element totally contrasted with her traditional dress.. thus making her even more bizarre!
Our drummer needed to posses an unworldliness- and also ignite some fear and menace. For his outfit I turned to vintage Pilot and Police wear. Teaming a vintage Pilot Suit with Vintage Army Equipment, modern day Riot Wear and a WW2 Gas Mask.
Below are some images of how his character evolved during my prep.

Costume Sketches
After pulling together moodboards, traipsing around the shops and trawling through magazines I find the best way to fully express an idea is through picking up a pencil and sketching.
Drawing is something I continue to work on and develop. Here are some Costume Sketches that have recently inspired me.

Im not quite sure how it has suddenly reached September... My ability to have skipped any summer rays for Topshop and my sewing machine may have had something to do with the following ads...

Meeting Paddy.. Film4 Campaign
"Films for Life"- an epic Film 4 campaign, Directed by Kate Dunn featuring Paddy Considine and Vicky McClure.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world, where Paddy Considine may be the only survivor...
For this brief I wanted the costume to reflect on how you may live should you be the last survivor. I wanted to mix random elements with practical items. For example.. underneath Paddy's beaten Donkey Jacket and worn shirt he wore a vintage, and broken down "Hawaii" t-shirt- perhaps a nod to his pre-apocolipse life.
I also looked at customising the costume to add some of the characters personality. For this I collected objects such as a tin soldier, an old ship whistle, the frame of some Pincer glasses and old buttons. I then threaded and attached theses objects to the button holes of his jacket- as though Paddy had collected theses objects on his many journeys through the barren landscape.
Other details that I threw in included... leather pieces around his beaten boots, a vintage scarf for a bag strap and old potato sack cloth as a hand wrap..... I hope that you like the results.....

Jean Paul Gautier Commercial..testing..
When I was asked to style a commercial for super talented director Sasha Nathwani I was filled with excitement.. especially when I read the script... Jean Paul Gautier. Finally a chance to use beautiful couture gowns! After a manic few days of prep and fittings the shoot was a great success. And I look forward to working with Sasha's team in the future.... details coming soon...
Bang On' "Got IT" Music Video
A complete and utter random and quirky brief was thrown at me from director Jamie Roberts.
Robo Dancers, the Pope, Burlesque Beauty, a Mad Scientist, Retro Chess players... and a GIANT 'IT'??!!!
The IT character turned out to be a successful collaboration with prop genius Alex Bowens. I was rather sad when by the end of the shoot 'IT' ended up in the boxing ring with "Bang On" and then finally finishing his Foam-Board life by diving into a swimming pool! :-(
